To build “East of the Equator,” Michele Kelly chose Sandvox. She chose the “Minty Fresh” design for the site. People may want to visit the site if they are looking for cruising blog of sailboat.
Sandvox features used for this site:Blog, Photo Grid, Custom Collection Index, RSS Feed Object, Raw HTML Object
Describe your website.
Out website is primarily a personal blog and photo album that highlights our sailing travels. It also contains a Map page and side-bar to reference our current location. We use the site as a fun way to communicate with people and share information of potential use to other sailors.
Who is the target audience for your website?
Our site is a way for us to stay in touch with our friends and family as we travel. It is also a convenient way to make contact and get to know new acquaintances whom we meet. Finally, it may serve as a useful reference to other sailors like us who are interested in gathering information about the countries we visit, navigational experiences and/or boat repairs and maintenance.
What is the advantage of your website over others?
The ability to leave and receive comments was very important to us, since we use this site as a means to stay in touch with people. I also like the ability to keep fresh content; for example with the updated thumbnails in a collection index and the RSS feed imported from an external website.
Tell us a story about this website.
I use a custom "collection index" grid on my welcome page to capture all elements of my site and love the fact that these images are updated when new content is added! My friend commented that this will create more interest in other pages besides the primary blog feed.
Why did you use this Sandvox design?
Clean, modern look. Good fonts.
What techniques did you use to build this website?
I stumbled across the use of the "Collection Index" for the site as a whole and I like the appearance of it on my "Welcome Page" very much in lieu of a "Site Index".
I use a Map page (using embedded raw HTML from another website) that updates our sailing coordinates and travel routes with real navigational (GPS) data.
Also using the raw HTML function, I included a "Flag Counter" to track visitors to our site by country.
